Where does the phrase "break a leg" come from? Join or Log In to answer.
true meaning of "break a leg" is the wish for many curtain calls. When you bow or curtsy, you are supposed to put one foot behind the other and bend at the knee, "breaking" the leg.
-modcom (41Q / 7653A) Wed Oct 8, 2008 3:32pm

Cool, thanks!
-ghostly (10Q / 489A) Wed Oct 8, 2008 3:33pm

also in theater it is bad luck to wish someone 'good luck' - so people wish for the opposite instead. break a leg = good
