Wrapping ankle for shin splins? Join or Log In to answer.
Yes. The main cause of shin splints is when muscles try to slow your foot from rolling forward as your heel strikes the ground. Wrapping the ankle both supports the foot, taking strain off that muscle, and subconsciously adjusts your stride.

Is it good to tape shin splins? Join or Log In to answer.
Doctors tape the ankle for support. -A taping worn all day will allow the shin to rest properly by taking the pressure off the muscle attachments.
-Emma (0Q / 500A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 6:35pm

Yes and no - you can tape them during activity, but you should not tape them while resting. Prescription-strength ibuprofen (800-1600mg dosages) will help both pain and healing. (consult a doctor first)
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1419A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 6:39pm

The best thing for shin splints is to stay off your feet while you have them, and walk on your heels to strengthen the muscle in question. While resting, DO NOT TAPE or otherwise constrict blood flow - you'll delay healing.

Is there a radar detector (sp?) available that can indocate where the signal's coming from? Join or Log In to answer.
Yes
Its detailed here
http://tinyurl.com/6gecbx
-Emma (0Q / 500A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 5:28pm

The only positions where police radar can be effective are heading directly towards, or directly away from the radar gun. Make sure you're covering your 6 - Highway patrol loves to shoot radar up your ass.

hey mosio, i need opinions please. i have seen in movies where 2 people are scuba diving and they both run out of air, then the put there mouths together and keep breathing back and forth into each others mouths. my question is, would that even work with the amount of co2 we breath out? im thinking it wont b/c theres no o2 being transferred, only co2. thats my thought, now i would like your thoughts about this. thanks mosio. The only way this would work is if one had a tank of oxygen and they were sharing this oxygen.

thats what i thought. thanks.
-Hawk616936 (30Q / 587A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 1:07pm

Actually, it would work for a very short while - even our exhaled breath contains fairly high levels of oxygen.
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1419A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 1:07pm

Comments:
You'd only get a half-dozen useful breaths, though...
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1419A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 1:07pm

(To rivalarrival)
maybe thats all is needed to get to the surface.
-Hawk616936 (30Q / 587A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 1:08pm

thanks
-Hawk616936 (30Q / 587A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 1:08pm

Wouldn't this be the same as if you just held your own breathe then?
-poppeseed (128Q / 460A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 1:09pm

(To poppeseed)
Yeah, but you're tricking your lungs into thinking your still breathing, and you're purging the alveoli, which contain the highest concentrations of CO2.
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1419A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 1:10pm

(To poppeseed)
maybe, but when you pass air into some one else your lungs are still moving, as if you hold your breath, your lungs dont move
-Hawk616936 (30Q / 587A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 1:11pm

(To Hawk616936)
I get where you're coming from. Just seems unbelievable to me. :|
-poppeseed (128Q / 460A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 1:12pm

(To poppeseed)
I don't think it's standard procedure, or even likely - your energy is probably better spent getting to the surface than meeting up with your dive partner to swap spit.
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1419A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 1:37pm

it'd work to an extent, like cpr.
but if you are diving and run out of air you make an emergency ascent, the air expands in your lungs as you rise

thanks
-Hawk616936 (30Q / 587A) Sat Nov 22, 2008 1:08pm

but i thought if you come back up too quickly its bad for you b/c your body wasn't able to decompress.

How come fireplaces make your house colder? Join or Log In to answer.
Not all of them do. The problem is that combustion requires air, and air has to come from somewhere. If you burn the air in your house, cold air from outside is drawn indoors to replace it.
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1419A) Fri Nov 21, 2008 7:13pm

A good fireplace or wood burning stove will draw air into the firebox through a pipe to the outside. You're burning cold, outside air instead of warm, interior air.

Which is worse (stronger): cell phone radiation or wifi radiation? Join or Log In to answer.
This is a tough one to answer, but i'm going to say cell phone because you hold it so close to your head/body.
-KungFuKitten (441Q / 3419A) Fri Nov 21, 2008 9:56am

cell phone emissions are stronger than wifi.
-jamers (229Q / 845A) Fri Nov 21, 2008 9:58am

Oh i meant without taking anything else into account (ie proximity of handset to body, frequency of usage, etc.) thanks for ur answers
-brochos (295Q / 108A) Fri Nov 21, 2008 10:08am

To accurately compare, you need to measure effective radiated power, which measures both the actual power and the antenna's efficiency in converting that power to signal. You also need to consider that a wifi signal is rarely continuous.
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1419A) Fri Nov 21, 2008 10:42am

Basically, though, they are about the same, normally both are in the 1/4 to 3 watt range.
