I am searching for a house to buy but am doing my own research - what does a
realtor do aside from the same thing? Why should I pay them anything for
the same info?

Realtors usually have access to MLS data sheets that give more in depth information on a property. You're also paying for their "experience and expertise" as a professional.
realtor.com says:
Can help determine your buying power
Have resources to help assist your search
help negotiate
objective information
due diligence during property evaluation
help explain things
can guide you
help evaluate a proposal
Often times a realtor will have access to more homes than are available for your to view. The realtor can also make sure the house is clean or in good condition before you visit it.
