setting had a tremendous impact on the prisoners: hot Summers,cold winters, high winds. Dust was a continual problem, prisoners usually woke up in the morning covered from head to toe with a fine layer of dust

um... besides the harsh climate and armed guards? maybe the chicken farms and post office.
