Manzanar is most widely known as the site of one of ten "camps" where over 110,000 Japanese Americans were imprisoned during World War II.

setting had a tremendous impact on the prisoners: hot Summers,cold winters, high winds. Dust was a continual problem, prisoners usually woke up in the morning covered from head to toe with a fine layer of dust
