The Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th, 1776, but the United States was not 'officially' independent from Great Britain until the Treaty of Paris was signed September 3, 1783 after the American Revolution.

Technically, 1783 when the war was over. In 1776 we only declared our independence.
BTW England never officially recognized the USA before that
