Question
i get a lot of nosebleeds in the winter and my doctor recommended getting it cortorized. What is this and how is it performed? Join or Log In to answer.
Cauterizing is closing an open blood vessel by precise clinical burning of the area using a silver nitrate stick.

There are various ways nosebleeds can be treated with cautery. Your doctor would likely provide a local anesthetic around the nose and then use either a chemical application or direct heat in order to burn the vein/s responsible for the bleeding.

Doc knows best, but you can aslo try: sleep with a humidifier, wear a scarf, use a cotton swab to apply a thin layer of vaseline in your nose to keep it moist, spray a saline solution in each nostril every once in a while...

My research also indicates that you go to an Ear Nose Throat Specialist before you go ahead with the cauterization.
