(To Hawk616936)
thats weird, that shouldn't have happened. all it should have done is redownloaded them from the webpages. did your antivirus updates include resetting a firewall?
-Mangangali (7Q / 4712A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:40pm

(To Mangangali)
no. just virus updates to protect me. i looked at all the details of the update.
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:42pm

(To Hawk616936)
try rebooting your system.
-Mangangali (7Q / 4712A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:43pm

im ahead of u. i just did that and its the same.
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:45pm

(To Hawk616936)
i got nothing, i just know that when I woke up before I called my ISP my problem was fixed. Sometimes they work on their networks during off peak hours, like now. seeing as you had those websites before, means that your computer loaded up from its history
-Mangangali (7Q / 4712A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:52pm

(To Mangangali)
, and didn't fetch all the data because it already had it.
-Mangangali (7Q / 4712A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:52pm

(To Mangangali)
which makes sense, because mosio is pretty much WYSIWYG what you see is what you get. basically text thats formatted and linked to some pretty small (file size wise) graphics.
-Mangangali (7Q / 4712A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:54pm

(To Mangangali)
so how do i get it to get all the info and not use the history?
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:55pm

(To Mangangali)
what does all that mean?
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:56pm

(To Hawk616936)
you don't the history or "cache" is what the webbrowser keeps to make your next visit faster.
-Mangangali (7Q / 4712A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:56pm

(To Hawk616936)
thats as plain as I can put it. sorry. what troubles me is that google doesn't use java, like mosio so you SHOULD be getting it.
-Mangangali (7Q / 4712A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:58pm

(To Mangangali)
i can load myspace, gmail, aol, and imdb again. i still cant load yahoo and facebook.
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:00am

(To Hawk616936)
yeah sounding more and more like off peak network maintenance.
-Mangangali (7Q / 4712A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:01am

Are you using a proxy to connect through? Do you have java/javascript disabled? Do you have 'cookies" blocked? Have you downloaded any software lately? Any one of these could cause that error.

What software have you downloaded? Was it something like Ad-Aware or Ad blocker?
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:27pm

(To sgtralph)
no it was updates to my anti-virus.
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:31pm

(To Hawk616936)
I can't help but wonder if that caused it. the antivirus update could have been corrupted. You could be having a firewall problem, or even your router might be going bad. LOTS of things could cause that error msg. Also, have you tried to connect through
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:45pm

(To Hawk616936)
Also, have you tried to connect through Internet Explorer? That would tell you if the problem is with the browser.
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:46pm

(To sgtralph)
i tried internet explorer and safari web browsers and i get the same message: Failure To Connect To Web Server
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Thu Sep 4, 2008 11:53pm

(To Hawk616936)
i got the same when I had my problems except that when I cleared my cookies/cache they just didn't reconnect to a couple sites, i'm pretty sure they are working on your network, but if this isn't fixed "in the morning" call up your isp.
-Mangangali (7Q / 4712A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:00am

(To Hawk616936)
3 different browsers, same problem. They all have the router, firewall, and windows in common. I would turn off the firewall for 1 minute and try to connect.
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:01am

(To Hawk616936)
u can go to ur routers website and try and run a diagnostic on it. Call ISP in the morning, and LASTLY you could do a system restore to last week.
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:03am

(To sgtralph)
how do i turn off my fire wall? is it safe to turn it off?
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:03am

(To Hawk616936)
its safe if you do it only for a very short period of time. Hackers have programs called port scanners that search for unprotected pc's
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:05am

(To Hawk616936)
but it takes some time for a program to find you and a bit longer to actually scan your system. 1 minute should be fine.
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:06am

(To Hawk616936)
finally it depends what type of firewall you have. each can be disabled in its own way. Hopefully you only have one running.
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:07am

(To sgtralph)
i have no clue. how do i check to see how many fire walls i have. i know i have windows defender firewall and it does a scan automatically at midnight every day. but for some reason it cant be updated.
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:13am

(To Mangangali)
thanks for all ur help. i'll try every thing again in the afternoon and if the same thing happens i will call my internet provider and my local computer repair store.
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:16am

(To Hawk616936)
defender is not a firewall, It is like a spyware scanner. If you dont have McAfee or Symantec the you probably only have the normal windows firewall.
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:17am

(To sgtralph)
so where do i find that and disable it?
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:21am

(To sgtralph)
i see. should i be having more than 1 firewall running if its the windows one right now. should i download another firewall or is one good enough?
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:23am

(To Hawk616936)
sorry. i thought you left. Click start button, control panel, security center, then "manage security settings for windows firewall."
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:23am

(To Hawk616936)
No. Only 1 firewall! Two firewalls on could conflict withone another and you wont be able to go to any website..Diasable the one and try to log on to yahoo quickly.
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:25am

(To sgtralph)
in the menu, i found that i have one active firewall from eset which is my anti-virus
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:27am

(To sgtralph)
maybe thats the problem. i see windows firewall and eset firewall are both on right now.
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:29am

(To Hawk616936)
Eset is antivirus and antispyware software only not a firewall, so it should not conflict with windows. If anything it is conflicting with Defender. I would uninstall defender since eset is better.
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:31am

(To Hawk616936)
I say try and shut off Windows firewall and try to connect. If that doesn't work, I would definitely try the local pc shop (of course the problem could clear itself up tomorrow.)
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:33am

(To Hawk616936)
A quick apology. I see on their website that the Eset security suite includes a personal firewall. If you have that version installed then it could be causing a problem with Defender or Windows firewall.Good luck..
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:38am

(To sgtralph)
its says that eset personal firewall is currently on. it also says that windows firewall is currently on as well. which one do i turn off and which one do i use?
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:39am

(To sgtralph)
so what do i turn off to fix this problem?
-Hawk616936 (15Q / 454A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:40am

(To Hawk616936)
Use Eset and turn off Windows firewall. Windows is for basic protection. Eset is comprehensive and the better product..
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:41am

(To Hawk616936)
turn off windows permanently and leave Eset on. Try to connect to Yahoo.com. If still cannot connect then disable Eset for a minute while you try and connect again. The reenable Eset.If nothing works. see the pc shop.
-sgtralph (5Q / 317A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 12:42am

(To sgtralph)
ok i did that. im trying yahoo.com again. one moment

Sounds like a DNS fail...
-rivalarrival (44Q / 480A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 6:27am

Comments:
DNS is what translates a URL into an IP address. It's normally done in the background. If you can't reach a DNS server, you can't get to a new webpage. If you've got a page in cache, your browser probably has the IP address. If you clear the cache, though
-rivalarrival (44Q / 480A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 6:32am

(To rivalarrival)
you'll lose the IP, and won't be able to visit until you contact a DNS server again.

Normally, resetting your cable modem (and router, if you have one) will force them to find new DNS servers.
-rivalarrival (44Q / 480A) Fri Sep 5, 2008 6:34am
