Cellphone exercise scheme successful

Sitting in front of a bright screen isn’t exactly what many people would consider the first steps to exercising and staying healthy, but a new exercise scheme may be able to prove those people wrong. 177 people with cardiovascular disease were split into two groups of exercisers. One group received helpful and motivating text messages randomly throughout the day to encourage 30 minutes of exercise, whilst the other group continued with conventional exercise methods. The studies showed that those with the extra SMS help actually felt overall more confident to exercise than those that did not receive any SMS tips.

Texting campaign puts heart healthy messages in your pocket

The American Heart Association must have taken a page from the books of the New Zealand cardiovascular exercise study because they have now opened up a new text campaign that allows Americans to sign up and receive helpful and encouraging messages to stay healthy and help to reduce the risk of heart disease. In America, heart disease is one of the biggest killers, and by providing tips through SMS the average American will be able to do what they need to stay in top condition.

The long wait is over

Asking for the stranger in front of you at your local post office, airport, train station or theme park to hold your place in the queue isn’t exactly a sure-fire way to reserve a spot whilst you’re out doing other things, so until we have an alternative, waiting in-line may be the only option. It may not be long till we do have an alternative though- a software company has developed a system that can allow people to reserve a spot in queue by sending a text message to the place they need to queue at. In essence, you’ll still be waiting in a queue, but in a virtual world, instead of in a physical space.

Could TEXTING be the latest way for doctors to diagnose strokes?

According to research, texting may be another way to spot stroke symptoms. We already know that garbled and slurred speech are a very clear sign of an upcoming stroke, but an incoherent text message could also be a sign of a stroke. A recent stroke victim could speak and write fine, but after further investigation, texts sent around the time of the stroke showed to be garbled up and filled with less English than normal. This could be used in the future as a sign for loved ones to help those who may be suffering from a stroke.

Banks Roll Out Customer Service App With Live Mobile Chat

Standing in-line at a bank or waiting on the phone while listening to call center music can make you feel bored and like you’re wasting your time. Two UK banks have tried to replace these two slow methods of communications by offering a mobile chat app that allows business bank users to ask questions to an agent and receive a real reply quickly. If this service gets used a lot, we may end up having to wait for an answer, but if we’re lucky, this could be a solution to those long waiting times in a queue or on a phone.
