How Text Messaging Improves Guest Services and Process Efficiencies in Hotels

hotel-checkout-list

In a short “Ways and Methods” blog series, we’ve compiled a list of our 3 articles about how text messaging improves guest services and process efficiencies at hotels. We’re not talking about mobile marketing, sign up subscribers and send them blasts, these are examples of how you can create a two-way, interactive text messaging conversation with guests to provide them with better service and also to collect insightful feedback from them about their stay with you.

4 Ways to Increase Hotel Staff Process Efficiencies with Text Messaging

7 Methods Hotels Can Implement to Improve Guest Satisfaction Using Mobile Text Messaging

5 Ways Hotels Can Use Text Messaging to Increase Revenue

Text messaging is the best and most efficient way to reach and communicate with the largest number of hotel guests. Text messaging is accessible in ways mobile apps will never be and it is available on 99% of all mobile phones. That doesn’t mean you should give guests your phone number and have them text you directly. Well, you can, but that doesn’t scale. You can use two-way text messaging software built for collaboration so your staff can receive and respond to text messages from your guests. Your guests use their mobile phones, your staff use any internet connected device. Your guests deserve great service and your staff deserve great communication tools to deliver that service. Two way text messaging software enables you to achieve both!

Happy Texting!

Text messaging is always something many believe to be a private matter, and with a new system put in place by Watsonville police, crime-stoppers have managed to take advantage of that line of privacy. Text messages will go through a third party system and then arrive to any police officers on patrol. This new line can be quickly used to give tips to police about new crime they may miss out on, or just to notify the police that something isn’t quite right. We believe that thanks to the high speed nature of texting, this could become a very handy tool.

We all need to call the cab from time to time, but this article is the first to make us realize that there really isn’t any other form of public transport that offers this quick ‘order of service.’ A business in India hopes to change this by allowing train passengers to book for tickets before the train’s arrival. It’s easy to imagine that this could make travel by train a whole lot smoother and more convenient for both those working for the train and the passengers. We really hope we see a similar service being adopted worldwide.

New plan to pay hotel bills through the phone

To help promote a cashless Kenya, hotels are planning to introduce a new system to allow hotel stayers to pay the hotel bills straight from their phone. This will help customers to enjoy the benefits of the hotel without forcing them to have cash in their pockets and will also help with fraud issues involving cash. Kenya has been chosen as a start point thanks to the countries quick adaption to new technologies, but plans have been made to move it out of Kenya and into other parts of Africa as well.

Hospitality News Update: Hotels get more creative with digital screens, Restaurants turn to smartphones, tablets for orders and more, NFC technology trial to begin at McDonald’s in Canada

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas has eight large floor-to-ceiling video columns that use photography and film to tell a story.

Hotels get more creative with digital screens

By using digital screens, hotels are displaying digital art to please customers and keep things looking pretty. What I love about the idea of using digital screens is that it’s incredibly easy to change what is on the screen, meaning you can suit up the hotel for whatever time of the year it is, and it’s nice and bright, allowing the screens to act like a source of light. It is expensive however, and a hotel will most likely already be classy enough to be on the 5 star list before installing these new digital screens into their entry room.

Grand Strand restaurants embrace new technology

By using text messaging, restaurants can not only cut down on costs, but also provide information to customers and thank them for visiting their restaurant in a new, digitally accepting way. As an example, Drunken Jacks is now taking phone numbers from their customers and sending them texts to inform them when their meals are ready. This apparently costs $50 a month, and they won’t have to worry about losing their pagers which cost $80 each and can often go missing.

The long wait is over

Asking for the stranger in front of you at your local post office, airport, train station or theme park to hold your place in the queue isn’t exactly a sure-fire way to reserve a spot whilst you’re out doing other things, so until we have an alternative, waiting in-line may be the only option. It may not be long till we do have an alternative though- a software company has developed a system that can allow people to reserve a spot in queue by sending a text message to the place they need to queue at. In essence, you’ll still be waiting in a queue, but in a virtual world, instead of in a physical space.
