Gimp vs. Inkscape vs. All other open source ones out there Join or Log In to answer.
From what I've seen, the concensus shows Gimp as the favorite.

Gimp is probably the most popular - it's included with many Linux distros. Lots of guides for it.

Same as my last question: but what would happen if federal gov't cuts spending Join or Log In to answer.
less stuff gets built like bridges and roads... then less jobs for people... same as last problem... also strikes fear in people if we cut education, healthcare, police, etc... govt needs to be functioning...
-bigmike (33Q / 2511A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:00pm

and the system is too corrupt to cut spending in frivolous pork projects and such... so many lobbyists and too much money involved with the oil and big pharma companies... need to make a wholesale change in govt structure and how we spend $
-bigmike (33Q / 2511A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:01pm

Double edged sword - taxes should decrease, but government workers will be laid off, companies reliant on government contracts will struggle... Government spending would be a good thing right now.
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1376A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:05pm

Comments:
i agree that Govt Spending shouldn't be cut right now.. just needs to get spent in a better way...
-bigmike (33Q / 2511A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:08pm

Expect some big projects in the near future -Hoover dam sized projects, Tennessee Valley Authority sized projects.
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1376A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:08pm

Thanks again all

or the Bridge to Nowhere, oh wait... this country doesn't need Big Projects to survive, that's what got us into this mess in the first place
-bigmike (33Q / 2511A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:09pm

(To bigmike)
Care to elaborate?
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1376A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:15pm

(To bigmike)
I mean, yeah, the bridge to nowhere was an idiotic idea, but TVA and Hoover Dam were immensely successful.
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1376A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:16pm

(To rivalarrival)
i think putting money into renewable energy, hard science, and technologies that will enable better communication, transportation, which will further development... is a better idea
-bigmike (33Q / 2511A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:27pm

(To rivalarrival)
No doubt they were successful at the time, but they're only stopgaps that will just delay the inevitable.. cant just keep making big projects.. need something that will sustain economic development
-bigmike (33Q / 2511A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:28pm

(To rivalarrival)
but i don't have a real answer on what could work... if i did, I'd probably be running for office, haha. I just think the current system isn't working...
-bigmike (33Q / 2511A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:29pm

(To bigmike)
Not really stopgaps - TVA had HUGE impacts on electrical production and transportation in an otherwise impoverished area of the country. Hoover dam has done similar.
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1376A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:30pm

(To bigmike)
R&D funding is always necessary, but at some point, you have to implement your research - and now would be a good time to do that. Take foreign oil - we have the capability converting coal to gasoline at approx $4/gallon. Now would be a good time to do th
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1376A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:34pm

(To bigmike)
The real problem is that the people have lost faith in the dollar, lost faith in the credit market. The market only operates when people are spending.
-rivalarrival (79Q / 1376A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 6:40pm

(To rivalarrival)
and the "Unspoken" problem is that as a consumer-based economy, everything revolves around people buying "things" that might not need... we need to get away from that

If the automobile industry lays off 30,000 workers what will happen to prices, output (gdp), and employment? hint: from a macroeconomic view Join or Log In to answer.
Less people with a salary, means less people buying things which leads to companies making less money and contributing tax dollars.. which leads to more peeps losing jobs... prices go down since less buying.. leads to deflation
-bigmike (33Q / 2511A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 5:56pm

Thanks
-brochos (289Q / 107A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 5:57pm

And deflation sucks because everyone will hold off making decisions about spending money... companies wont build a factory this month if it might cost 20k less next month.. you wont buy an ipod this month if it might be 20 cheaper next
-bigmike (33Q / 2511A) Sun Nov 16, 2008 5:57pm

and govts cant fight against deflation because you can only lower the interest rates to 0% to try to stimulate purchases... but that might not be enough... we need sustainable jobs and lots of growth in various industries to turn around

What is the common thread between "the perils of obedience" and martin luther king jr's letter? Join or Log In to answer.
The answer was probably given in a lecture about 2 weeks ago that you skipped.

Huh? I missed that one
-brochos (289Q / 107A) Wed Nov 12, 2008 12:19pm

The common thread between the works is that both maintain that disobedience to authority is imperative in cases of moral or ethical justice. This is just my quick $.02, after a brief skim of both documents.

Did senator obama ever make a reference to a previous president, policy or what happened in 1929 while talking about the economy? Join or Log In to answer.
My preliminary research can't find anything that Senator Obama said himself, but there are numerous reports comparing his proposals to similar proposals from the 1929 era.
