Wow, such a polite community. I do realize I was wrong now that Mangangali reminded me of the division and multiplication rules first, but this has also made me realize you're an ass.
-RobOswald (1Q / 43A) Sun May 4, 2008 3:57pm

yes, but remember multiplication and division come before addition and subtraction

Not a president.Alexander Hamilton, The US Treasurer

Alexander Hamilton was on the $10, but he was never President. He was a founding father and first Secretary of Treasury according to Wiki, though.

Maybe someone will come up with something different, but I couldn't find anything anywhere saying that initial set up acts as a formatting tool. I think it's just to choose the language and default profile. you should be fine.

I have a bill collector that recently called and left a message on my Jobsvoice email to whether receptionist and different people can get that. I'm only being 7 days late on a bill. We've ask them to take that number off of the call list they still continue to do it. Is there any legal things I can do? To remind them they cannot do this or not. I'm on a State of Texas so that makes it different. I hope you could let me know I would appreciate that. Thanks. Join or Log In to answer.
For starters I'll suggest you take a look at http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/ I'll look for specifics, but I'm pretty sure your collector has broken the rules.

I had friends who worked at a collection agency when we were younger and I know that they can and will call anyone it takes to get money for a debt owed. There is no law about them calling any number they want to to get a hold of you. But

That's not true. A collector may contact you in person, by mail, telephone, telegram, or fax. However, a debt collector may not contact you at inconvenient times or places, such as before 8AM or after 9 PM unless you agree. A debt collector also may not c

...A debt collector also may not contact you at work if the collector knows that your employer disapproves of such contacts.
-fiera121 (335Q / 531A) Sun May 4, 2008 9:31am

(To fiera121)
Maybe the employer just hasn't informed them of that yet, then? I did a find a law against them calling your neighbors to collect a debt, which I know happens a lot too.
-RobOswald (1Q / 43A) Sun May 4, 2008 9:34am

(To RobOswald)
This is true. It would be up to you to first tell them not to contact you at work, before they are breaking the law by doing so.
-fiera121 (335Q / 531A) Sun May 4, 2008 9:37am

there may be some law about how long past due the bill has to be before they can call. Check out that website previously recommended, but I just wanted to add my two cents that I know they can call any number they want when money is owed.
-RobOswald (1Q / 43A) Sun May 4, 2008 9:26am

4. Calls at work
(Section 805(a)(3)). Debt collectors may not call you at work if they have reason to know your employer forbids such communication (e.g., you or your employer has verbally informed them).
-astx813 (243Q / 296A) Sun May 4, 2008 9:29am

Section 805(b) debt collectors "may not communicate, in connection with the collection of any debt, with any person other than you, your attorney..." and a few others. They can't talk to boss or coworkers.
-astx813 (243Q / 296A) Sun May 4, 2008 9:32am

Debt collectors generally cannot:
• Have you arrested or threaten to have you arrested for failure to pay a debt...
-fiera121 (335Q / 531A) Sun May 4, 2008 9:35am

• Curse at you or yell at you.
• Speak to or threaten to speak to any third-party regarding your debt (such as your employers, family, or friends)...
-fiera121 (335Q / 531A) Sun May 4, 2008 9:35am

• Call you again if you tell them in writing not to call you.
• Call you at work if you tell them you cannot receive calls at work...
-fiera121 (335Q / 531A) Sun May 4, 2008 9:36am

• Update their listing on your credit report without noting that the debt is disputed if you disputed the debt with them, either on the phone or in writing.
-fiera121 (335Q / 531A) Sun May 4, 2008 9:36am

Consult an attorney for more info, but if they have spoken in anything but general terms to a third party, they may face civil liability.
