The car manufacturer recommends 92 octane for your car because of the compression and performance of your engine. Running a lower octane may work although engine performance will suffer and you may experience some pinging

certain cars run more efficiently w/ different octanes, so it's not really a standardized increase of performance.

Using a higher octane than is recommended for your engine will bring no benefit, although using a lower octane than recommended will reduce performance.

If your engine doesn't have high enough compression to take advantage of the higher octane, you're wasting your money. But... it will cause no harm, either.
