Code Division Multiple Access the other big standard is GSM Global System for Mobile phones. iirc sprint uses CDMA, i.e. phones without sim cards

Yah - Sprint and Verizon are the big CDMA players. ATT and Tmobile are GSM, which most of the world uses.
